I guess you get what you wish for ... When I was turning 8 years old and blowing out the candles on my birthday cake, I wished to be a singer and a poet. I started singing when I was a little kid and the first song I remember is 'Over the Rainbow' around the time of The Wizard of Oz. I played folk music as a teenager and then travelled the world in my early twenties which opened my ears to the sounds of Central and South America, the Middle East, India and Asia. Soon after that I trained in various Canadian institutions to further my understanding of music and concentrated on jazz. I played jazz on flute, saxophone and voice for 15 years. This included the Montreal Jazz Festival for six years and concert and club venues in British Columbia, Quebec and Ontario. In 1992, I released a jazz CD with Jazz Inspiration of Toronto entitled 'Trisha Pope'. On a Quebec Arts Council grant, I travelled to India in 1993 to study karnactic singing and I started to be drawn to 'sacred singing'. When I returned to Canada, I began to study healing work in particular 'sound healing' work in vibrational medicine. My career turned towards choir conducting and arranging, healing seminars and one-on one healing work with clients. I became more interested in the healing qualities of sound and my composing work took on this intention. I split my time between Montreal and a little town in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. I like to take long walks and forage in the woods for edible and medicinal plants. I am grateful to teach sound-healing workshops and intuition development courses at Institute NHC in Montreal. I am also grateful to have the opportunity to conduct song circles at Aviva Spa in Lac Brome, Quebec. I perform in an inspiring duo with a wonderful Halifax/Montreal jazz pianist named Holly Arsenault. I conduct the happy and warm-hearted Tamarack Choir, an 18-member ensemble which performs rituals with healing intention. My last CD "Song I Learned From Trees" is a collection of soul songs for healing written on the advice of various lovely trees on my property in Baldwin Mills, Quebec. |
